Mushroom Retreat 2023
Mushrooms for wellbeing.
I've had a lot of foragers join my courses over the last few years who are interested in species linked to wellbeing. They're all interesting, but some are being researched in particular for their mental health benefits. There are many people out there who would like the opportunity to discuss them further, so here is your chance.
This is a weekend retreat at the tail end of the Autumn foraging season in a beautiful location on the Lancashire West Pennine moors. It is a secluded spot with no neighbours and the set up is to accommodate 12 people in wooden huts. The focal point of this gorgeous place is a octagonal roundhouse building with a spacious lounge and shared kitchen heated by a wood burner. Out at the front is a patio with a fire pit and a wood fired hot tub and sauna.
Meet and greet and get to know each other.
I will present some ideas that have come from recent studies and we can share our thoughts and experiences and discuss our hopes and expectations of the weekend.
Breakfast and then a forage to see what we can find in the nearby woods and up on the moors. Hopefully there will still be some edible species around. The Saturday main meal will include Neoboletus luridiformis, the delicious edible mushroom commonly called the Scarletina Bolete. The reason for this is that many foragers report an effect from these, a sense or feeling of wellbeing that lasts about 24 hours. It is an ideal prelude to the evening's activities.
Exploration evening. Our physical needs will be met by the team and myself and I will guide you and accompany you through the evening.
We will rise feeling surprisingly refreshed, breakfast and share our experiences of the weekend before heading back to our lives at home.
Food that will be provided will be vegan but not gluten free. Please discuss any food needs and preferences with so that I can make sure you are accommodated. Drinks. I will share some of my home distilled gins with you and there will be tea and coffee and soya, oat and cows milk available, if you want other beverages please bring them along. We will discuss alcohol use during the weekend on Friday night.
Accommodation and sleeping arrangements are mixed with some private double beds and some single bunks. If you have a campervan and prefer to sleep in that please discuss with me.
There are 12 tickets for this event.
The cost of the retreat is £390 per person. This includes gin samples and all meals.
The hot tub and sauna are charged at an extra flat rate of £200 to be shared between the group. This will be arranged in the group chat.
